Jean Hélion (1904–1987) was a pioneering French painter and intellectual known for his influential contributions to 20th-century art.

Initially a leader in the abstraction movement, he introduced this style to America in the 1930s.
Later, he shifted towards a distinctive form of figuration before World War II. Hélion’s work is celebrated for its innovative approach and his ability to blend abstract and figurative elements, making him a key figure in modern art history.

The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris is hosting a retrospective of  his work that encompasses the entire 20th century.

“Art is, from any point of view, the greatest of risks.”
