The exhibition pays tribute to the mutual connection and fascination between Vijande and Warhol and their work thanks to the Colección Suñol Soler, based in Barcelona, a distinguished private art collection assembled by the Spanish entrepreneur and philanthropist Josep Suñol Soler.

An exhibition featuring over thirty works that commemorates Andy Warhol’s visit to Madrid in January 1983, for his specially created show at the Galería Fernando Vijande titled “Guns, Knives, Crosses.”
Additionally, “Warhol & Vijande, Meeting in Madrid” will be accompanied by “More than Altered Images” (located in the Portico and Gallery of the museum), showcasing 20 of Warhol’s most personal portraits taken by his friend and close collaborator, photographer Christopher Makos. Makos, who witnessed Warhol’s iconic visit to Madrid, focuses on the theme of gender identity in these works.

This series, previously unknown to the general public, comes from one of North America’s most significant photographers, who taught Warhol how to take Polaroid photos and moved in literary circles with figures like Tennessee Williams, Gore Vidal, and Truman Capote.

“The idea is not to live forever, it is to create something that will.”
