Yoko Ono

Music of the mind

Yoko Ono became well known in 1969 when she married English musician John Lennon of the Beatles, but here she is a pioneer in early conceptual and participatory art, film, and performance.
She is also a renowned musician and a strong advocate for world peace.

Her artistic practice, developed across the United States, Japan, and the UK, centers on ideas often conveyed through poetic, humorous, profound, and radical expressions.

“YOKO ONO: MUSIC OF THE MIND” is the UK’s most extensive exhibition celebrating significant moments in Ono’s innovative and influential multidisciplinary career, from the mid-1950s to the present. It highlights her time in London, where she met her future husband and longtime collaborator, John Lennon.
The exhibition features more than 200 pieces, encompassing instructional works, scores, installations, films, music, and photography. It showcases an innovative approach to language, art, and participation that remains relevant and impactful today.

The exhibition is organised by Tate Modern, London in collaboration with Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf
